2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302

After the Mustang was born, 1967 rolled around and Chevrolet introduced their pony car, the Camaro. Case in point, the 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302.

The Boss 302 is a 2012 model year exclusive as the last time the words "Mustang", "Boss" and "302″ were brought together on a factory car was in the early 1970s. The blue oval has repeated history once again to make another, purpose-built racing hero.

Underneath our Race Red Boss test car, the 302 starts out as 2012 GT. Slightly absolved from the standard GT's 5.0, the Boss redlines higher (7,500 rpms compared to 7,000) and thus makes more power. Granted, $42,000 for a Mustang is quite a bit, but not to many vehicles can be raced this hard right off the showroom floor.

Ford engineers were given the go-ahead to throw caution to the wind and make the Boss as raw as possible. The Recaro supplied seats are fantastic; offering support and comfort. The alcantra covered steering wheel offers excellent grip and is placed just right for quick inputs.

The electric-assisted power steering isn't as strange as some from certain German vehicles and allows a driver to select from three different feedback settings. Always ready for a fast sweeper or a 90 degree corner sideways, the Boss 302 is the best handling Mustang we have ever sampled.

With 444 horsepower on tap, the 5.0 in the Boss is oddly "revvy". On race tracks, noise levels are not the biggest concern, and the Boss's follow that philosophy.

Dynamic wise, the Boss 302 is the best dancing Mustang of its generation but it isn't without its negatives.

The interior, albeit comfortable, is rather bare-bones compared to other Mustangs. The
2012 Mustang Boss 302 is, without a doubt, rolling history.

The Boss 302 Mustang is a high performance variant of the Ford Mustang originally produced in 1969 and 1970, but revived in the 2012 model year. It was produced for the Trans Am racing series, while the Mustang Boss 429 which was produced the same years was built around a larger engine.

The Camaro was the largest threat to the lead Ford had in the pony car field, a niche of car manufacturing largely created by Ford with the introduction of the Mustang in mid year 1964. The design was a composite engine using the tunnel port Windsor block and large Cleveland heads.

The
Boss 302 Mustang was designed by Larry Shinoda, a former GM employee. He placed the unique reflective c-stripe strips on the car, and eliminated the fake rear fender scoops found on the 1969 Mustang model. In 2007, a pair of restored 1969 Boss Mustangs sold for $530,000.

2012 Ford Focus ST-R

Starting in early 2011, the Focus in both North America and Europe will be the same vehicle. The U.S. car essentially stayed put: The original Focus was good enough to be a C/D 10Best winner, but the competition moved on, leaving the current version dead last in a recent small-car comparo.

The 2012 Ford Focus ST-R certainly looks terrific, especially in five-door form. Compared with the current U.S. Focus, the new car is 0.5 inch lower (at 58.1 inches tall) and 3.0 inches long¬er (178.0 inches overall), and it has a 1.3-inch-longer wheelbase (104.2 inches). The 2012 model’s dimensions are close to the current Euro car’s, save for a wider track and lower stance.

Torsional rigidity is up by 25 percent over that of the current Focus. Ford says the engine will put out 155 horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque. Jim Hughes, the chief nameplate engineer for the Focus in North America, adds, “We’ll eventually get an EcoBoost [turbocharged DI] engine in the Focus.” Derrick Kuzak, the global product-development chief, says: “There will be no conventional automatic on this car.

will American consumers pay more money for this latest Focus?
As the all-new Focus ST road car makes its global production debut, Ford is giving a European welcome at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show to a special motorsport counterpart - the race-tweaked, production-based Ford Focus ST-R.

Despite its close resemblance to the Focus ST road car, the Ford Focus ST-R is purpose-built for the track by Ford Racing in North America as a fully-prepared competition car.

Focus Role in Ford's Global Motorsport Strategy
The global Focus race car development - a major plank in Ford's new global motorsport strategy - is based on international S2000 regulations. Both the Team Aon Focus BTCC car and the new
Ford Focus ST-R are evidence of a Ford strategy with global ambitions to help privateers to be competitive on all levels.
Ford launched its global motorsport development program last year.

2013 Ford Focus ST

The 2013 Ford Focus ST is a really exciting car for Ford," said Jost Capito, director of Global Performance Vehicles.

For global customers, Focus ST is powered by the 2.0-litre Ford EcoBoost engine, which offers an uncompromising mix of performance and efficiency. Ford's Global Performance Vehicles group has taken this technology and developed a 250PS high-output derivative of the 2.0-litre Ford EcoBoost engine for Focus ST.

The previous generation Focus ST was acclaimed for its particularly sporty 5-cylinder engine sound. The Focus ST's Electronic Power Assisted Steering (EPAS) is also enhanced with Ford's Torque Steer Compensation (TSC) system.

Through the corners, Enhanced Torque Vectoring Control is an essential help for
Ford Focus ST drivers, a tuned version of the Torque Vectoring Control found in the base model Focus. The interior of the core Focus model is already designed with a "cockpit" feel, giving any Focus driver a sporty sensation.

No secret is the new Escape's engine range. The 2.0 litre engine will offer fuel consumption figures of around 7.8 l/100km, bettering the Australian-delivered Escape by two litres and delivering an additional 77kW.

A 2.0-liter EcoBoost. Ford uses a similar engine in the 2012 Edge, rated at 240 hp. -- A 2.5-liter normally aspirated engine with variable valve timing. Fans of the Escape hybrid shouldn't despair. Ford says the next-generation hybrid powertrain developed for the C-Max gets 25 percent better fuel economy than the current Escape hybrid.

2012 Ford Edge

Its new Door Edge Protector, which debuts in January 2012 on the Ford Focus, activates as the door is opened. The feature defends against more than 90 per cent of variously positioned obstructions to the front doors and 85 per cent at the rear doors.

The new Door Edge Protector extends into its protective position at a door opening gap of less than 150mm and it defends against more than 90% of variously positioned obstructions to the front doors and 85% at the rear doors.

Ford has debuted a new technology that could help prevent scratches and dents caused by opening vehicle doors.

This allows it to absorb the shock should the edge of the vehicle's door hit another object, defending against over 90 percent of obstructions to the front doors and 85 percent at the rear doors.

Lee Iacocca Ford Mustang

Lido A.Lee Iacocca Ford Mustang was born on October 25, 1924.(Lido would change his name to Lee after going to work for Ford. Lees parents worked hard to provide for their family. Nicola believed in America. Lee was never afraid of work. Lee attributes his work ethic to the example set by his father.

The depression hit his family just as hard as the rest of the country. Lee feels the depression had a direct impact on his life. In grade school Lee came face to face with ethnic intolerance. Lee married Mary McCleary in 1956. Rather than introduce himself as
Lee Iacocca Ford Mustang, he stated that his first name was Iacocca, and his family name was Lee. The program was a huge success. His district went from last place in sales to first place. Due to this program it was estimated that an extra 75,000,000 cars were sold.

Another project that
Lee Iacocca Ford Mustang undertook was the Fairlane Committee. This committee used research data to decide what type of new car to produce. This project allows us a glimpse of Lees business management style. He used good marketing research data, he surrounded himself with good people, and he was willing to listen to them. Lee became known as the Father of the Mustang.
After the huge success of the Mustang, Lee was made President of Ford on December 10,1970. This program gave managers 3 years to make their departments profitable or sell them off .

The car was to be developed for fuel economy and price to compete with foreign cars that were already on the market. By the end of 1975 Lee began having trouble at Ford. Most of this seemed to be a personality conflict between Henry Ford II and Lee. It didnt take long for Lee to figure out that Chrysler was in a state of emergency. Each department seemed to be working in a vacuum. Lee was not able to pull everything together and make it work. By 1983 Lee had Chrysler back on their feet, and on July 13, 1983 Chrysler paid back all their government loans.

2007 Ford st Focus Price Reviews

Changes are minimal on the 2007 Ford Focus. Optional on SE and SES trim levels is a new interior upgrade package with two-tone leather seats and satin metallic interior trim. We still like the original Focus: It's fun to drive, comfortable for commuting and available as a sedan (ZX4), two-door hatchback (ZX3), four-door hatchback (ZX5) or wagon (ZXW). Additionally, the fit and finish problems that plagued early Focus models persist on later models.

Ford says "smart design and spirited driving" were the guiding forces behind the development of the Focus.
Body Styles, Trim Levels, and Options
The 2007 Ford Focus compact car comes in four body styles: a two-door ZX3 hatchback, a four-door ZX5 hatchback, a ZX4 sedan and a ZXW wagon. Additionally, there's a sport-oriented Focus ST sedan.

Aside from a standard MP3-compatible CD player, base S models are pretty spartan, offering only 15-inch steel wheels, black exterior trim and a height-adjustable driver seat. The uplevel Focus SES includes 16-inch alloy wheels, foglamps, body-color exterior trim, cruise control, tachometer and a tilt/telescoping steering wheel. Options for the 2007 Ford Focus include a sunroof, an in-dash CD changer and leather upholstery.

Safety
Front disc/rear drum brakes are standard on all but the Focus ST sedan, which has 4-wheel discs.

Interior Design and Special Features
The 2007 Ford Focus is roomy for its class, offering generous accommodations for its front and rear passengers, even in the ZX3 hatchback. In terms of cargo capacity, the Focus sedan offers 14.8 cubic feet; the hatchbacks offer 18.0 cubes and the wagon offers 35.6 cubes. Regardless of trim, the Focus offers a smooth ride and above-average handling.

2001 Ford Mustang GT,Reviews

2001 Ford Mustang GT models get unique hood and side scoops, so that you can tell 'em apart from V6 models. After a one-year hiatus, the Ford SVT Mustang Cobra returns for 2001.

Now 37 years old, the Mustang is quickly approaching middle age. There are four models: the V6 Coupe, the V6 Convertible, the GT Coupe and the GT Convertible. All V6 models have a 3.8-liter pushrod engine that makes 190 horsepower at 5,250 rpm and 225 foot-pounds of torque at 2,800 rpm. The Ford SVT Mustang Cobra is a high-performance Mustang that has been heavily modified by Ford's Special Vehicle Team (SVT). The engine produces 320 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 317 ft-lbs. of torque at 4,750 rpm.

All Mustangs offer drivers and passengers supportive, upright front chairs, well-placed controls, clear views out the front and side windows, and acceptable dashboard and seat materials. For 2001, Ford upgraded the center console by adding a larger rear cupholder and repositioning the front cupholder, power point, tissue holder and parking brake boot. The standard, deluxe and premium trim groups offer varying levels of standard and optional equipment, with the premium trim group being the most inclusive.

The
2001 Ford Mustang GT suspension allows the car to be predictable during hard cornering and side-to-side weight transfers are progressive for added stability during high-speed lane changes. Rough pavement can make the ride uncomfortable in base- and GT-model Mustangs, however, as the rear suspension still uses a solid rear axle.

All-speed traction control and antilock brakes are standard on most trim levels. The Mustang is as popular as ever.

Ford Crown Victoria,Reviews

Large V8-powered sedans made a comeback in the 21st century, but the Ford Crown Victoria was one of the very few full-size, rear-drive sedans that never left. The Crown Vic's model run continued uninterrupted until 2007, the last year it was available for consumer purchase.

For the car's most recent redesign in 2003, Ford fitted it with an all-new frame, a redesigned front suspension and rack-and-pinion steering, all of which improved the big Vic's crash performance and handling dynamics.

Most Recent Ford Crown Victoria
Last produced for civilian use for the 2007 model year, the Ford Crown Victoria was a full-size, six-passenger sedan available in base and LX trim levels. The LX model had a few extra upscale features and also allowed access to a couple optional packages such as the premium handling and performance package (previously known as the LX Sport trim level). In reviews, we found that the Ford Crown Victoria delivered a forgiving ride quality.

Past Ford Crown Victoria Models
The
Ford Crown Victoria was dramatically restyled for 1998 by adopting the formal roof line previously used exclusively on its Mercury Grand Marquis twin.

2011 ford fusion and reviews

After last year's extensive refresh,2011 ford fusion sees only detail changes involving standard features for 2011. For power, there's a fully competitive 175-horsepower four-cylinder base engine, a 240-hp 3.0-liter V6 or a 263-hp 3.5-liter V6 in the Fusion Sport.

Body Styles, Trim Levels, and Options

The 2011 Ford Fusion is a midsize sedan available in S, SE, Sport and SEL trim levels. The SE adds 17-inch steel wheels (alloy-look covers), foglamps, automatic headlights, dual exhaust tips, a fold-flat passenger seat, an eight-way power driver seat with manual recline and lumbar, steering-wheel radio controls and a six-speaker stereo with satellite radio.
The Sport adds a sport-tuned suspension and steering setup, 18-inch alloy wheels, exclusive styling cues inside and out, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, a 10-way power driver seat, a four-way power passenger seat, unique leather-trimmed seats and the Sync entertainment and communications interface. The Fusion SEL adds heated exterior mirrors, puddle lights, a numerical keyless entry pad, ambient lighting, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats and leather upholstery.
The 2011 Ford Fusion features three different engines. The base power plant -- standard on S, SE and SEL models -- is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 175 hp and 172 pound-feet of torque. All-wheel drive is optional on the Sport and V6-powered SEL.
Fuel economy ratings for the four-cylinder Fusion with the automatic check in at 22 mpg city/31 mpg highway and 25 mpg combined.

Safety

Antilock disc brakes, stability control, front-seat side airbags and side curtain airbags are standard on all Fusions. In the side-impact test, the Fusion earned five stars for front passengers and four stars for those in the rear. The 2011 Ford Fusion's cabin features soft-touch materials and a somewhat austere but attractive design. There's plenty of room for passengers in the Fusion.

Driving Impressions

The Sport model feels particularly buttoned-down thanks to its sport-tuned suspension.
The 2011 Ford Fusion ranks 1 out of 19 Affordable Midsize Cars. Reviewers were impressed with the 2010 Ford Fusion’s upscale interior, more powerful engine options and available all-wheel drive. The 2011 Ford Fusion maintains these traits, but gains a few more improvements.
The Ford Fusion had an excellent 2010. Perhaps one of the coolest additions to the 2011 Ford Fusion is the MyKey system. Most car reviewers agree that the 2011 Ford Fusion is ideal for small families. In addition to great fuel economy, buyers receive the same sprightly performance and high-quality interior finishing and amenities the 2011 Ford Fusion gasoline models offer.
Also, the Ford Fusion is one of the few Affordable Midsize Cars available with All-Wheel-Drive, making it a popular family car in the snowbelt.  AWD shoppers would do well to test drive at least one of these alternatives before buying a Ford Fusion

sThe 2011 Ford Focus coupe has been discontinued for 2011, leaving only the sedan.Let's cut to the chase: Wait a few months to buy a 2011 Ford Focus. If you can wait, we'd highly recommend hanging on for the next-generation Ford Focus.

Can the new 2011 Ford Focus Mk3 move the goalposts again? Read CAR Online's first drive review here - and make sure you read the new February 2011 issue of CAR Magazine, out on 19 January, for our twin test with class benchmark the VW Golf.

The new 2011 Ford Focus: the headlines please
Ecoboost?
No, you’re thinking of Ford’s miserly Econetic models. Ecoboost refers to Ford’s new super-frugal turbocharged 1.6 petrol engines that cover ground that would have been naturally aspirated 2.0 turf a few years ago. Read the new February issue of CAR Magazine for our key test of the new Focus diesel and see how it compares with the VW Golf.

The 113bhp 1.6 and 138bhp 2.0 turbodiesels are more appealing, while speed junkies can now opt for the 161bhp 2.0 diesel from the Mondeo, which you can read about in our Focus-Golf twin test in the February 2011 issue of Car.
The 2.0 diesels are the only models available with Ford’s new dual-clutch gearbox, but as Ford has bizarrely chosen to fit a gearstick mounted rocker switch instead of steering wheel paddles, you might not want it anyway.
Like the cabin of the original Focus, but unlike the departing car’s, the new Focus cockpit is fresh, vibrant and just a little bit busy with buttons everywhere. Options include a self-steering lane guidance system and adaptive cruise control.

What’s the new 2011 Focus like to drive?
Well if you loved the mischievous throttle adjustability of the old cars, particularly the Mk1, whose humblest versions danced on their tyres like hot hatches, then the new car’s undeniably planted feel might disappoint. Driving Focus 3, it’s mostly about the front end, the super-quick turn-in from the impressively realistic electric-power steering system that cuts fuel consumption, allows Ford to offer a VW-style automatic parking option and even compensates for cambers.

Besides that, the 2011 Ford Flex only sees a few minor changes in colors and feature content.Outside of the new trim level, an optional power-folding third-row seat feature debuts on Limited trim models, and HD radio is now included with the navigation system.

Body Styles, Trim Levels, and Options

The new Titanium package adds on top of the Limited's features 20-inch chrome wheels, unique interior and exterior styling accents, microfiber suede seat inserts and perforated leather trim for the steering wheel.
Options on every Flex include second-row reclining and sliding captain's chairs and contrasting roof colors. The Limited can be had with 20-inch wheels, power-folding third row seats and a refrigerated second-row center console.
The 2011 Ford Flex comes standard with a 3.5-liter V6 producing 262 horsepower and 248 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive are standard with this engine and all-wheel drive is optional. EPA fuel economy estimates are 17 mpg city/24 mpg highway and 19 mpg combined with front-wheel drive and 16/22/18 with all-wheel drive.

Safety

The 2011 Ford Flex comes standard with antilock disc brakes, stability and traction control, front side airbags, side curtain airbags and rear parking sensors. The Ford Flex's interior quality is top-notch, with abundant soft-touch materials and an attractive, upscale design. With the rear seats lowered, the Flex can hold 83 cubic feet of stuff.
Besides that, the 2011 Ford Flex only sees a few minor changes in colors and feature content.

2011 Ford Fiesta,Reviews

The 2011 Ford Fiesta is an all-new subcompact available in hatchback and sedan body styles.
Unlike much of its competition, the Ford Fiesta is available in both sedan and hatchback body styles. There are some distinctive Fiesta alternatives in this competitive segment. The Fiesta sedan, meanwhile, has a bit less rear seat room than the Chevy Aveo, Hyundai Accent and Nissan Versa.

Body Styles, Trim Levels, and Options

The 2011 Ford Fiesta comes with four doors in both sedan and hatchback form. The SE hatchback is equipped similarly to the SE sedan but adds a rear spoiler and wiper. All 2011 Ford Fiestas are powered by a 1.6-liter inline-4 that generates 120 horsepower and 112 pound-feet of torque. Disappointingly, there is no manual-shift feature.
Ford estimates the Fiesta's fuel economy at 30 mpg city/40 mpg highway for the automatic and 29/38 for the manual.

Safety

Standard safety features include stability and traction control, antilock disc brakes, front-seat side airbags and side curtain airbags. Ford's Sync system (standard in top trims) allows voice control over the audio system and your cell phone, and it also provides features such as voice-prompted turn-by-turn navigation (it works respectably well) and emergency assist. At 12.8 cubic feet, the sedan's trunk capacity is class-competitive. The Fiesta hatchback offers a bit less than that with its rear seat up. Unfortunately, the seats don't fold completely flat, and the Fiesta's 26 cubes of maximum cargo capacity pale in comparison to the Honda Fit's 57 cubes and the Kia Soul's 53 cubes.

Driving Impressions

We can say without hesitation that the 2011 Ford Fiesta provides the most rewarding drive in its class.
Model Lineup
The Fiesta is offered as a sedan or hatchback, both with four doors. Heated leather seats, anyone? The Fiesta sets new standards for available equipment in the small-car segment across three trim levels: S, SE and the equivalent SEL sedan and SES hatchback. The SE option list is extensive, including 6-speaker SIRIUS sound, Ford's Sync connectivity suite (now including many voice-activated smart phone applications), heated mirrors and seats, a power moon roof, cruise control and a rear spoiler. At the SES/SEL level, the Fiesta can be as well outfitted as many entry-level luxury cars. Options for SES/SEL buyers include leather seating, heated front seats and push-button starting, meaning that short of such luxuries as air-conditioned seats and power rear window shades, the little Fiesta packs most of the big-car experience into a compact package.
This proven engine is mated to a conventional 5-speed manual transmission or an optional 6-speed automatic.
As an entry-level car, the Fiesta remains a front-wheel-drive commuter at all times; there are no all-wheel-drive or higher-powered variants. All Fiestas sip 87-octane gasoline, at 30 mpg city/40 mpg highway. On the Road
From behind the wheel, the Fiesta is one part compact commuter and two parts big car. Ford clearly spent time refining it, and the standard electronic power steering is an upscale touch.

2011 Ford F-450,Reviews

Exhibit A? The large pickup truck market. Despite the fact that Toyota and Nissan never followed up their light-duty trucks with three-quarter or one-ton models, just the threat of such entries spurred Ford, General Motors and Dodge to significantly up their games. If you discount oddball brutes like the International CXT, the Ford F-450 defines the upper limit of pickup trucks in nearly every way. The 2011 Ford F-450 is only available as a crew cab with an eight-foot bed, four-wheel drive, dual-rear-wheel axle and Ford's all-new 6.7-liter PowerStroke diesel V8.

Since the mid-1990s, Ford has slowly separated the styling of the Super Duty from the light-duty 2011 Ford F-450, and the latest iteration takes that practice to a new extreme. One look at that massive grille and it's obvious this is no truck for poseurs. From its base XL trim with black painted grille to our chromed Lariat tester, the F-450 is beyond imposing, with its vertically stacked headlight clusters, cab-mounted auxiliary lights and extended wheel arches. Despite being nearly new, the latest Super Duty models continue to retain the cut-down side glass near the mirrors and Tonka truck blockiness we've seen on every iteration for the last decade.

The switch to enable the tow-haul mode is integrated into the column-mounted shift lever and the automatic trailer brake control and auxiliary switches are located at the base of the center stack. The new settings up the output of the diesel from the 390 horsepower and 735 pound-feet of our test truck to an even 400 hp and 800 lb-ft, giving bragging rights back to Dearborn. Ford will apply the software upgrade to all existing Super Duty trucks when they come in to the dealership for service. In the last couple of months, we have had other opportunities to drive similar diesel-powered F-350s with trailers of 10,000-12,000 pounds back-to-back with comparable GM trucks. Like, five turns lock-to-lock slow.

But for a truck designed to tow large trailers, slow steering is helpful in preventing the driver from inducing any sway while cruising down the road. It's not unusual for these heavy-duty diesel trucks to accumulate half-a-million miles or more before being put out to pasture.

2011 Ford F-350,Reviews

The 2011 Ford F-350 Super Duty would be the latter, a heavy-duty pickup available with a dual rear axle that can tow upwards of 21,600 pounds. Both engines get a new six-speed automatic transmission and Ford says fuel economy has improved as well.

The Ford F-250 Super Duty has been redesigned for 2011, with new exterior styling, new gas and diesel engines, a six-speed automatic transmission, and many new standard and optional features.

Body Styles, Trim Levels, and Options
The 2011 Ford F-250 Super Duty is available as a regular cab, SuperCab (extended cab) or crew cab body style.

SuperCab and crew cab models are available with either a short (6.75-foot) or long (8-foot) bed, but the regular cab model is only available with the long bed.
Buyers may choose among four trim levels: the base XL, XLT, Lariat and King Ranch. The Lariat trim level adds foglights, power-telescoping mirrors, rear parking sensors, 18-inch wheels, a power rear sliding window, chrome tubular step bars, dual-zone automatic climate control and upgraded interior upholstery.

Also standard is a 4.2-inch LCD multifunction screen, wood grain trim, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, power-adjustable pedals, leather seats, a middle front seat that converts into a center console, 10-way power-adjustable front seats, the Ford Sync voice activation system and an eight-speaker audio system with satellite radio.

Some features on the Lariat and King Ranch trims are available on the XL and XLT models. Buyers of the 2011 Ford F-250 Super Duty are given the choice of either a 6.2-liter gasoline V8 or an optional 6.7-liter diesel-fueled V8. Properly equipped, the F-250 Super Duty can tow up to 14,000 pounds with a conventional trailer setup. When configured for fifth-wheel towing, that figure jumps to 16,500 pounds. The 2011 Ford F-250 Super Duty comes standard with four-wheel antilock disc brakes, stability control, trailer sway control, hill launch assist, side and side curtain airbags and an SOS post-crash alert system. An integrated trailer brake controller is standard on XLT and higher models, while the Lariat trim level adds rear parking sensors and power-adjustable pedals. Most of the 2011 Ford F-250 Super Duty's interior carries over from the previous model, featuring a blocky, industrial theme.

It’s big iron with a big curbside presence. The Power Play
The two new engines are a 6.2-liter gasoline V-8 and a 6.7-liter turbo-diesel V-8. Ford’s SOHC 6.8-liter V-10—362 hp, 457 lb-ft of torque—carries over but is limited to chassis-cab applications.

The bigger news is the new turbocharged and intercooled 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel V-8. After a long and sometimes rancorous relationship with Navistar, Ford’s previous diesel-engine partner, the automaker elected to develop the next generation of its Power Stroke diesel in-house. Bosch worked with the Ford team to develop the turbo system, which entails an innovative variable turbo: one turbine wheel (supplied by Honeywell) with vanes on both sides, operating sequentially. Another intriguing design element is the absence of external exhaust headers. This allows for shorter plumbing and improves turbo response time and cooling.

Prodigious Performance
Developed for the higher output of the new turbo-diesel, Ford’s heavy-duty 6R140 TorqShift six-speed automatic transmission is equally new, replacing the previous five-speed automatic as well as the six-speed manual, which has been dropped. The 6R140 serves gas and diesel trucks. The most impressive part of a day-long preview staged by Ford involved hitching an F-250 Super Duty crew cab to a 10,000-pound trailer and then towing it up and down a mountain loop. The Power Stroke diesel handled the job easily and with astonishingly little racket.

Maximum payloads range from 2350 pounds to as high 6520, and Ford claims best-in-class in both categories across its broad range of heavy-duty offerings.
Beyond that, Ford says the new turbo-diesel, in addition to its increased muscle, will deliver up to 18 percent better fuel economy (15 percent for the new gasoline V-8). Aside from heftier crossmembers and beefed-up steering gear, the trestle-like underpinnings of the Super Duty trucks are unchanged.

Perhaps the biggest physical update to the inner Super Duty is up front, where the seats from the latest F-150 have been carried into the bigger trucks. When the 2011 Ford F-250 Super Duty trucks go on sale in April, pricing for a base two-wheel-drive standard-cab F-250 with the 6.2-liter V-8 will start at $28,975, a noticeable increase over its predecessor, which based at $26,850.
Ford currently owns 46 percent of this total market, 65 percent of which is diesel

There's also a new Lariat Limited trim level, revised feature availability and the adoption of electric-assist power steering. Well, the 2011 Ford F-150 suffers no such weakness. From here, there are three upgrades to replace last year's 320-hp 5.4-liter V8: a 360-hp 5.0-liter V8, a 365-hp twin-turbo V6 (dubbed "EcoBoost") and a 411-hp 6.2-liter V8 only seen late last year in the Raptor variant. For commercial-grade use, Ford offers the contractor-oriented lineup of "Work Solutions" options.

Body Styles, Trim Levels, and Options

The 2011 Ford F-150 full-size pickup truck is available in three body styles: regular cab, extended cab ("SuperCab") and crew cab ("SuperCrew"). Reverse-opening rear doors are standard on regular and SuperCabs for easier cab access, while SuperCrews have four full-size doors.

No fewer than 10 trim levels are offered: base XL, sporty STX, popularly equipped XLT, rugged FX2/FX4, luxurious Lariat, Lariat Limited, leather-saddle-inspired King Ranch, blinged-out Platinum, bad-boy Harley-Davidson and extreme off-roader SVT Raptor.

The volume leader XLT features chrome exterior trim, foglamps, an upgraded cloth interior and full power accessories.

The Lariat offers upscale interior trim, leather upholstery, heated eight-way power driver and passenger seats with power-adjustable lumbar, power-adjustable pedals, a power-sliding rear window and dual-zone automatic climate control.

Other option highlights include a sunroof, a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, a cargo management system, a stowable bed extender, a trailer brake controller, premium Sony audio system, a hard-drive-based navigation system with Sirius Travel Link and a rear-seat entertainment system.

The 5.0-liter V8 comes standard on the FX2/FX4, XLT 4WD, the long-bed versions of SuperCrew XL and XLTs, the Lariats, the King Ranch and the Platinum. The 6.2-liter V8 comes standard in the Lariat Limited, Harley-Davidson and Raptor trims.
