2013 Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG

2013 Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG
Less than two months after the all-new SL-Class roadster debuted at the 2012 Detroit auto show, Mercedes is introducing the high-performance 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG. For the 2013 SL63 AMG, the engine in question is the M157 mill also found in several other recent AMG models. That SL is limited to just 130 mph.

The SL63 rides on an AMG sports suspension based on Mercedes' ABC adaptive suspension and switchable between Comfort and Sport modes.

The standard wheels are lightweight 19-inch units, and buyers can upgrade to forged AMG Performance Studio wheels that measure 19 inches front, 20 inches rear.

The 2013 SL63 AMG is based on the redesigned SL, with the usual performance and cosmetic upgrades.

Options include an AMG performance suspension, AMG rear axle differential lock, ceramic high-performance compound brakes with red-painted calipers, multispoke AMG forged wheels (available in matte black) with 255/35R19 front and 285/30R20 rear tires, and an AMG performance steering wheel.

The SL63 AMG gets a unique front apron with a large airdam, an AMG radiator grille, LED daytime running lights, side sills, rear lip spoiler, diffuser-style rear apron and chromed twin tailpipes.

The stage is set for the new
Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG. Ola Källenius, CEO at Mercedes-AMG GmbH: "The new SL63 AMG is yet another masterpiece from Mercedes-AMG. Superior performance and high efficiency: the Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG is available with a choice of two power outputs for the first time. The weight-optimised AMG sports exhaust system with two chromed twin tailpipes produces a distinctive engine sound.

The Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG is based on a lightweight all-aluminium bodyshell similar to that of the SLS AMG super sports car.

AMG sports suspension based on Active Body Control
Mercedes-AMG is remaining faithful to the ABC active spring and damper system: the new Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG is equipped with an enhanced version of the AMG sports suspension based on Active Body Control as standard. Further standard equipment includes 3 stage ESP®, a speciality exclusive to AMG with "SPORT Handling" mode for particularly keen drivers, while options available from the AMG Performance Studio include an AMG rear axle differential lock and AMG performance suspension.

Newly developed AMG high-performance compound brake system
An electric parking brake is fitted as standard, while options available from the AMG Performance Studio include red-painted callipers to denote the AMG Performance package and the even more high-performance, weight-optimised AMG ceramic high-performance compound brake system as seen on the SLS AMG.

The Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG leaves the factory fitted with five-twin-spoke AMG light-alloy wheels painted titanium grey with a high-sheen finish, shod with 255/35 R 19 front and 285/30 R 19 rear tyres. SLS AMG Roadster, SLK55 AMG and SL63 AMG - as the latest addition to the AMG Roadster family, the flagship V8 model displays the hallmark styling elements of a superior high-performance car from Affalterbach: the dynamically distinctive AMG bodystyling comprises the front apron with large air dams, AMG-specific LED daytime running lamps and a lower cross strut in silver chrome. One of the stand-out details on the AMG performance steering wheel is the AMG logo in the lower metal insert. The sportily designed AMG instrument cluster provides a wealth of information and includes a TFT colour monitor, AMG start-up display, AMG main menu and RACETIMER.
