Toyota Sequoia

There have been two generations of the Toyota Sequoia.

Current Toyota Sequoia
The
Toyota Sequoia is a full-size SUV available in three trim levels: SR5, Limited or Platinum. Even base SR5 models are well equipped, with alloy wheels, a 40/20/40 second-row bench seat, triple-zone automatic climate control, a CD stereo with iPod connectivity, Bluetooth and full power accessories. The Limited adds leather upholstery, power front seats and an upgraded JBL sound system.

All Sequoia trims are available in either two-wheel drive or four-wheel drive.

Thanks to an independent rear suspension (unlike its Tundra pickup platform-mate), the third-row seat folds flat into the floor, a welcome departure from the previous-generation Sequoia. In our reviews of the current
Toyota Sequoia, we've been impressed with its massive power (in versions powered by the 5.7-liter V8), surprising maneuverability and overall refinement. For a truck-based, full-size SUV, the Sequoia is an excellent choice.

Used Toyota Sequoia Models
The current
Toyota Sequoia represents the second generation, which debuted for 2008 with a base 4.7-liter V8 and five-speed automatic that were essentially carried over from the previous-generation Sequoia. The first-generation Toyota Sequoia full-size SUV debuted for the 2001 model year. Initially, its standard 4.7-liter V8 produced 240 hp and was mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. Limited models were decked out with luxury items, but even base SR5 models had a decent collection of standard equipment.

Honda S2000 Reviews

Roadsters tend to be narrowly focused on performance, sacrificing practicality in the name of merriment. CR stands for "club racer," denoting this model's track-specific tweaks for reduced weight and sharper handling. Second, while its 2.2-liter VTEC four does a credible impression of a racecar engine above 6,000 rpm, there's little power to speak of at lower engine speeds.

Body Styles, Trim Levels, and Options
The 2009 Honda S2000 is a compact two-seat roadster that is available in two versions -- base and CR. The base S2000 includes a power convertible soft top with a glass rear window, 17-inch alloy wheels, xenon headlights, leather upholstery, full power accessories, air-conditioning and a CD player.

The CR model is a racetrack-focused variant aimed at die-hard enthusiasts. The CR also receives some unsightly but effective aerodynamic spoilers, dark gray wheels with wider rear tires, even sportier suspension tuning, a quicker steering ratio, a sport-tuned muffler and fabric seats with suede inserts. Add it all up and the topless CR is 99 pounds lighter than the standard Honda S2000 (51 pounds lighter with the hardtop installed). Some of the base model's options are also available on the CR.

Powertrains and Performance A six-speed manual transmission relays this power to the rear wheels. Fuel economy checks in at an EPA-rated 18 mpg city/25 mpg highway and 21 mpg in combined driving. Driving Impressions Performance differences between the standard Honda S2000 and CR model are nearly indistinguishable on public roads.

2007 Ford st Focus Price Reviews

Changes are minimal on the 2007 Ford Focus. Optional on SE and SES trim levels is a new interior upgrade package with two-tone leather seats and satin metallic interior trim. We still like the original Focus: It's fun to drive, comfortable for commuting and available as a sedan (ZX4), two-door hatchback (ZX3), four-door hatchback (ZX5) or wagon (ZXW). Additionally, the fit and finish problems that plagued early Focus models persist on later models.

Ford says "smart design and spirited driving" were the guiding forces behind the development of the Focus.
Body Styles, Trim Levels, and Options
The 2007 Ford Focus compact car comes in four body styles: a two-door ZX3 hatchback, a four-door ZX5 hatchback, a ZX4 sedan and a ZXW wagon. Additionally, there's a sport-oriented Focus ST sedan.

Aside from a standard MP3-compatible CD player, base S models are pretty spartan, offering only 15-inch steel wheels, black exterior trim and a height-adjustable driver seat. The uplevel Focus SES includes 16-inch alloy wheels, foglamps, body-color exterior trim, cruise control, tachometer and a tilt/telescoping steering wheel. Options for the 2007 Ford Focus include a sunroof, an in-dash CD changer and leather upholstery.

Safety
Front disc/rear drum brakes are standard on all but the Focus ST sedan, which has 4-wheel discs.

Interior Design and Special Features
The 2007 Ford Focus is roomy for its class, offering generous accommodations for its front and rear passengers, even in the ZX3 hatchback. In terms of cargo capacity, the Focus sedan offers 14.8 cubic feet; the hatchbacks offer 18.0 cubes and the wagon offers 35.6 cubes. Regardless of trim, the Focus offers a smooth ride and above-average handling.

2008 Toyota Yaris S Reviews

Ntroduced last year, the affordable 2008 Toyota Yaris adds a sporty three-door "S" hatchback to its lineup, which shares features like 15-inch wheels, front and rear spoilers, CD/MP3 player and other upgrades with its S sedan counterpart.

As in, cheap price, cheap design, cheap materials and cheap construction. The Yaris is available as a spunky three-door hatchback coupe (liftback in Toyota-speak) or a much longer and roomier four-door sedan with more conservative styling.

This model features larger 15-inch wheels, body-color front and rear spoilers, reworked rocker panels, amber-illuminated Optitron instrumentation, upgraded seats with sport fabric, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, a CD player with MP3 capability and other extras.

Body Styles, Trim Levels, and Options
The
2008 Toyota Yaris subcompact is offered as a three-door hatchback coupe (dubbed liftback) or four-door sedan in two trim levels. Standard models are pretty basic, with 14-inch steel wheels, intermittent windshield wipers, air-conditioning, four-way adjustable front seats and a tilt steering wheel. Many model-specific package upgrades are available and include items like 15-inch alloy wheels, powered accessories, cruise control (sedan only), 60/40-split-folding rear seat (sedan), a sliding and reclining rear seat (liftback), a rear window defroster and upgraded interior trim. A full range of Toyota accessories are available to further personalize the Yaris.

EPA-estimated fuel economy with the manual transmission checks in at 29 mpg city and 36 mpg highway (35 mpg highway with the automatic).

Safety
As you might expect given its entry-level price tag, popular safety features like antilock brakes, front seat-mounted side airbags and side curtain airbags are optional on the Yaris. In government crash testing, the
2008 Toyota Yaris sedan earned four stars out of five for front occupant protection during frontal impacts. The 2008 Toyota Yaris travels down the road with a reasonably solid feel.

2012 Nissan GT-R msrp,Reviews

A new GT-R Black Edition debuts.
Where high technology meets high performance, you find some serious automobiles. As an example, look no further than the
2012 Nissan GT-R. As the representative of Nissan's latest technology, the GT-R packs some pretty serious hardware, including a fire-breathing twin-turbo V6, a dual-clutch automated manual transmission, an advanced all-wheel-drive system and a sport-focused suspension with adaptive dampers. The GT-R's performance numbers push it into supercar category, yet the Nissan maintains a significantly lower price point.

This year the Nissan GT-R expands its performance envelope even farther. The 2012 Nissan GT-R is a high-performance sport coupe with a 2+2 seating layout that is offered only in the Premium trim level.

Standard features include 20-inch alloy wheels with high-performance tires, automatic xenon headlights, LED running lights, Brembo brakes, an electronically adjustable suspension, leather/faux-suede upholstery, heated power-adjustable front seats, keyless ignition/entry, dual-zone automatic climate control and an 11-speaker Bose CD/MP3 audio system with two subwoofers, satellite radio, iPod connectivity and Bluetooth phone and streaming audio. A new GT-R Black Edition adds lightweight black wheels, a unique black and red interior and leather Recaro seats.

Powertrains and Performance
Th
e 2012 Nissan GT-R is powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V6 engine that generates 530 hp and 488 lb-ft of torque. Standard safety features on the GT-R include antilock Brembo brakes, stability control and traction control. In Edmunds brake testing of a previous GT-R, we've recorded a best 60-0-mph stopping distance of 98 feet, which ranks among the shortest distances we've ever seen.
The rather austere cabin of the 2012 Nissan GT-R is meant to convey an impression of performance and technology.

Driving Impressions
The
2012 Nissan GT-R achieves an impressive level of performance by utilizing technology rather than brute force. Road noise can be intrusive at times, but we think it's a small price to pay for the 2012 Nissan GT-R's otherworldly performance.

2012 Hyundai Genesis Coupe Reviews

For 2012, the Hyundai Genesis coupe gets more power and a mild styling refresh.
Introduction

More muscle is always welcome in the sport coupe segment, and the Genesis coupe sees higher output for both the turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 (2.0T models) and the 3.8-liter V6 (3.8 models). Both automatics also offer manual gearchange capability.

The
2012 Hyundai Genesis coupe is set to debut early in 2012 at the Detroit auto show.
After yesterday’s confirmation from Hyundai Australia that the next-generation Hyundai Genesis Coupe will make its way to our shores, images taken by a Hyundai employee have been leaked online showing the face of the new 2012 Hyundai Genesis Coupe. The headlights for the next-generation 2012 Hyundai Genesis Coupe feature a more complex design, with separate coves and sharper angles for different segments of the headlight cluster and separate bulbs.

2011 Toyota Land Cruiser Reviews

The Toyota Land Cruiser carries over unchanged from the 2010 model year.

The 2011 Toyota Land Cruiser is an icon for Toyota, but it's also like a misfit at a high school dance. As a large SUV, the 2011 Toyota Land Cruiser is a strong choice in the segment. The 2011 Toyota Land Cruiser is a full-size luxury SUV available in just one well-appointed trim level.

Most options are bundled into the pricey Upgrade package that includes a rear spoiler, a rear-seat entertainment system, a navigation system, real-time traffic update feature, a back-up camera, wood interior trim, heated second-row seats and a center console cooler box. The 2011 Toyota Land Cruiser is powered by a 5.7-liter V8 engine that produces 381 hp and 401 lb-ft of torque.

Safety
Standard safety features include antilock disc brakes (with brake assist and multi-terrain programming), stability control, front and second-row side airbags, front knee airbags, full-length side curtain airbags and active front head restraints.
The 2011 Toyota Land Cruiser also receives Toyota's Safety Connect telematics system, which is similar to GM's OnStar, notifying emergency responders if the airbags deploy or if a severe rear-end collision is detected.

Driving Impressions
As with previous 2011 Toyota Land Cruiser, the 2011 model has excellent off-road capability while still delivering a thoroughly comfortable ride on urban streets. When exploring the untamed wilds, the Land Cruiser's crawl control takes much of the worry out of the hands (or feet) of the driver.

Few trucks or SUVs are as well-known around the globe as the Toyota Land Cruiser. The history of the Toyota Land Cruiser dates back to the early 1950s. Soon after, Toyota gave this original "20 Series" vehicle the Land Cruiser name.

Though Toyota introduced the FJ20 to the U.S. market in 1958, it is that vehicle's replacement -- the FJ40 Land Cruiser that debuted a few years later -- that most people recognize as being the classic Land Cruiser. Modern Toyota Land Cruisers still maintain their forebears' focus on off-road ability but are now much more upscale, comfortable and accommodating.

Current Toyota Land Cruiser
A six-speed automatic channels this output to all four wheels via the Land Cruiser's full-time 4WD system with selectable low-range gearing. We're guessing most 2011 Toyota Land Cruiser buyers won't mind, since this SUV still offers superior off-road capability while raising the level of luxury to new heights. Notable add-ons include a rear-seat DVD entertainment system, a navigation system and wood trim.

We also have our reservations about the Land Cruiser's lofty price, especially with desirable options.

Used Toyota Land Cruiser Models
The current Toyota Land Cruiser represents the fifth generation, which was introduced for 2008. There have been no major changes since, though 2007-'09 models lacked the current model's advanced telematics system (Toyota Safety Connect) and expanded audio connectivity.

The fourth-generation Toyota Land Cruiser was produced from 1998-2007. As an option, Toyota offered an adjustable suspension system. We liked this version of the Land Cruiser -- a lot. Generally, the newer the Land Cruiser is, the more features it will have. In Edmunds.com reviews of the third-generation Toyota Land Cruiser, praise was given for its impressive off-road ability, strong engine and durable nature.

2012 Nissan Versa Reviews

Like other vehicles in this growing segment, the Versa combines excellent fuel economy, solid build quality and space-efficient interior design while remaining very affordable. The four-door Versa also distinguishes itself with many upmarket features and the choice of an inexpensive 1.6-liter engine or a relatively peppy 1.8-liter.

Current Nissan Versa
The
Nissan Versa economy car comes in two body styles: a four-door hatchback and a four-door sedan. Both body styles share the Versa's distinctive high bulbous roof line, which allows for a huge amount of interior space. The Nissan Versa is available in four trim levels: 1.6 Base, 1.6, 1.8 S and 1.8 SL. Standard features on the 1.8 S include air-conditioning, power mirrors and a six-disc CD changer. A five-speed or six-speed manual transmission is standard on most trims, with a four-speed automatic being optional.

Used Nissan Versa Models
The Nissan Versa was new for 2007.

The
2012 Nissan Versa is a tale of two cars. The Versa sedan has been completely redesigned for 2012. The Versa hatchback, however, soldiers on in its previous guise with only standard feature upgrades on which to hang its hat. In terms of exterior size, the new 2012 Versa sedan is largely unchanged. Fuel economy is up, and when equipped with the revised continuously variable automatic transmission, the Versa sedan achieves an impressive 33 mpg combined EPA estimate. The sedan's also between 3 and 6 mpg better than the hatchback depending on transmission.

Inevitably, though, your choice is more complicated than simply Versa versus Versa.
The 2012 Nissan Versa is available in sedan and hatchback body styles, but each represents different vehicle generations. The Versa sedan comes in three trim levels: S, SV and SL. Stepping up to the Versa SV sedan adds the Cruise Control package, full power accessories, keyless entry, upgraded upholstery and upgraded gauges.

The Versa SL sedan gets 15-inch alloy wheels, foglights, a 60/40-split-folding rear seat and the contents of the SV Convenience package. The Versa hatchback is available in S and SL trim levels. The Convenience package adds the Plus package, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, Bluetooth, steering wheel audio controls and an iPod interface. The 2012 Nissan Versa sedan is powered by a 1.6-liter four-cylinder that produces 109 hp and 107 pound-feet of torque.

In Edmunds performance testing, a manual-equipped Versa hatchback went from zero to 60 mph in 9.4 seconds. EPA-estimated fuel economy is 26 mpg city/31 mpg highway and 28 mpg combined with the manual and 24/32/27 with the automatic. The Versa hatchback SL comes standard with a CVT, which brings fuel economy up to 28/34/30.

Regardless of body style, the
2012 Nissan Versa comes standard with antilock brakes (front disc, rear drum), brake assist, traction and stability control, front seat side airbags and side curtain airbags.

While the interiors of the Versa sedan and hatchback differ in design, their basic virtues are similar.

Mercedes-Benz CLS,Reviews

He engines in the CLS550 and CLS63 AMG, for example, are shared with the E-Class and are connected to Mercedes' familiar seven-speed automatic transmission with manual-shift capability.

Overall, though, for the luxury car buyer who desires distinctive styling, strong performance and a sumptuous interior, the
Mercedes-Benz CLS is easy to recommend.

Current Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class
The Mercedes-Benz CLS is available as the CLS550 or the CLS63 AMG. As the rear-wheel-drive CLS is meant to be a relatively exclusive and upscale car, Mercedes hasn't bothered to offer a V6-powered model. Rather, the lineup starts with the CLS550. Paddle shifters are standard on the CLS63 and optional on the CLS550.

The CLS63 AMG needs only 4.4 seconds to hit 60 mph.
In reviews, we've noted that the
Mercedes-Benz CLS cars offer plenty of entertainment value to go along with their gorgeous exteriors.

Used Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class Models

Mercedes-Benz introduced the stunning, performance-oriented CLS500 sedan in 2006. As the CLS500's name suggests, it came with a 5.0-liter V8 rated at 306 hp. In that first year, Mercedes also offered the 469-hp CLS55 AMG. These models were superseded by the CLS550 and CLS63 AMG for 2007.

2011 Dodge Challenger Reviews

All Challengers benefit from extensive changes made to the suspension, steering and brakes, resulting in a more rewarding car to drive. Having said that, you can't ignore the Challenger's competitors.

Body Styles, Trim Levels, and Options
The
2011 Dodge Challenger is a five-seat coupe available in three trim levels that each correspond to a different engine: SE, R/T and SRT8 392. Standard equipment includes 18-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry, remote ignition (requires the automatic transmission), full power accessories, cruise control, automatic climate control, rear A/C outlets, a tilt-and-telescoping leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, an eight-way power driver seat with manual lumbar adjustment, a 60/40-split-folding rear seat, a trip computer and a six-speaker sound system with a CD player and auxiliary audio jack.

The Rallye package includes those features plus automatic headlamps, foglamps, leather upholstery, heated front seats and a six-speaker Boston Acoustics sound system. The Super Sport Group adds 20-inch chrome-clad wheels and performance-tuned suspension, brakes and steering.

The Challenger R/T gets a V8 engine, automatic headlamps, foglamps, heated mirrors, the SE's Connectivity Group and all of the SE's Super Sport Group equipment minus the wheels. The R/T Plus package adds 20-inch chrome-clad wheels, leather upholstery, heated front seats and the Boston Acoustics system. The Challenger SRT8 392 gets all the R/T's basic equipment, but adds xenon headlamps, unique 20-inch wheels, sport seats, an upgraded trip computer with real-time performance data, hydraulic power steering (versus electrohydraulic), upgraded brakes and suspension, and a one-day driver training course at the Richard Petty Racing School. The Track Pak adds a six-speed manual transmission. The regular Challenger's Sound Group II and both navigation systems are also available.

The
2011 Dodge Challenger SE is powered by a new 3.6-liter V6 that produces 305 hp and 268 lb-ft of torque. A five-speed automatic is standard. The Challenger SRT8 392 gets a 6.4-liter V8 that produces 470 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. In Edmunds testing, an automatic-equipped SRT8 392 went from zero to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds.

Every 2
011 Dodge Challenger comes standard with antilock disc brakes (size and power differs based on trim and certain option packages), stability and traction control, active front head restraints, front side airbags and side curtain airbags. Unlike the Dodge Challenger's distinctive-looking exterior, the interior is quite bland.

2011 Hyundai Elantra Reviews

The 2011 Hyundai Elantra has been fully redesigned, with an attractive design, new features, an efficient 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine and new six-speed transmissions.

What do the life stories of Cinderella and the
Hyundai Elantra have in common? For the fully redesigned 2011 Hyundai Elantra sedan, that moment is now. Beneath that dolled-up exterior, the new Elantra sports a new 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine mated to a choice of six-speed manual or automatic transmissions.

Body Styles, Trim Levels, and Options
Th
e 2011 Hyundai Elantra is a compact sedan that's offered in two trim levels. The GLS base model comes standard with 15-inch steel wheels, heated mirrors, keyless entry, a 60/40 split-folding rear seat, trip computer, full power accessories, a tilt-only steering wheel and a six-speaker sound system with a CD player, satellite radio and an iPod/USB audio interface.

Options for the GLS include the Popular Equipment package that adds 16-inch steel wheels, air-conditioning, cruise control and a telescoping steering wheel. EPA estimates are 29 mpg city/40 mpg highway and 33 mpg combined.

The
2011 Hyundai Elantra's list of standard safety features includes traction and stability control, antilock disc brakes, active front head restraints, front seat side-impact airbags and side curtain airbags that cover both rows. In Edmunds brake testing, an Elantra Limited needed 125 feet to stop from 60 mph -- a good distance for the segment.

Interior Design and Special Features
The
2011 Hyundai Elantra features a large trunk with 14.8 cubic feet of cargo room, a generous number for this segment.

Driving Impressions
Compared to last year's car, this new Elantra is more fun to drive.

2011 Toyota FJ Cruiser Reviews

For 2011, the Toyota FJ Cruiser receives minor equipment changes, including upgraded standard audio system and better access to the rear seat, plus folding headrests for rear seat passengers.

Introduction
Rear-seat ingress and egress is also awkward. As midsize SUVs go, the
2011 FJ Cruiser has formidable competition. The 2011 Toyota FJ Cruiser is a midsize SUV with standard-size front doors and smaller, rear-hinge half doors. Options include a Convenience package that offers keyless entry, power side mirrors, cruise control, rear privacy glass, an auto-dimming rearview mirror and a rearview camera.

The TRD package includes 16-inch alloy wheels, all-terrain tires and off-road-biased suspension tuning. The All Terrain package (available on 4WD models) includes Bilstein shocks, a locking rear differential, active traction control and the additional gauges of the Upgrade package. FJs with manual transmissions are only available with a full-time four-wheel-drive system; models with automatic transmissions come with either two-wheel drive or a part-time 4WD system.

Safety
Standard safety features include stability control, traction control, antilock disc brakes, front-seat side airbags and rollover-sensing side curtain airbags. The
Toyota FJ Cruiser has not been rated using the government's new, more strenuous 2011 crash-testing procedures. In side-impact testing, front and rear passenger protection received five stars.

Front visibility is also less than optimal due to the FJ's high hood line.

With the rear seats folded, 67 cubic feet of cargo space is created.

The
2011 Toyota FJ Cruiser is in its element when off-road. Notably, the FJ does not require premium fuel.

2010 Chevrolet Aveo,Reviews

The 2010 Chevy Aveo gets a 1-horsepower increase, revised manual transmission gear ratios for improved fuel economy and a standard rear spoiler for Aveo5 models.

At first glance, the
2010 Chevrolet Aveo would appear to be a contender for the economy car crown. The 2010 model's changes don't do the Aveo any real favors, either.

Body Styles, Trim Levels, and Options
The
2010 Chevrolet Aveo is available as either a sedan or a four-door hatchback, dubbed the Aveo5. In base LS trim, the Aveo is sparingly equipped with 14-inch steel wheels, cloth upholstery, OnStar and a four-speaker AM/FM stereo with an auxiliary input jack.
The Aveo5 hatchback in 2LT form also comes with a rear spoiler.

Powertrains and Performance
Official EPA mileage estimates are respectable for this class, with a manual-equipped Aveo achieving 27 mpg city/35 mpg highway and 30 mpg combined. Aveos with the automatic transmission drop to 25/34/28 mpg.

Safety
Front-seat side airbags are standard on all trim levels, but side curtain airbags (a feature that is increasingly common on subcompacts) aren't available. In government crash tests, the 2010 Chevy Aveo sedan earned a top five-star rating for the driver and four stars for the passenger in frontal impacts. Both the sedan and Aveo5 hatchback feature a 60/40 split-folding rear seat that allows for the transport of longer items.

Driving Impressions
Contrary to our customary recommendation to opt for a manual transmission, the Aveo's automatic seems to be the better choice.

Dodge Pickup 3500 Reviews

Plenty of people want pickup trucks.

Current Dodge Ram 3500
The current
Dodge Ram 3500 heavy-duty pickup is available in three cab styles: regular, Crew Cab (with four forward-opening doors) and Mega Cab (jumbo crew cab). With the exception of Crew Cab short beds, all Ram 3500s have a dual-rear-wheel axle.
The 2010 Ram 3500 is available with either rear-wheel or four-wheel drive. We're fond of the Dodge Ram 3500's powerful diesel engine, available manual transmission and wide range of body styles.

Used Dodge Ram 3500 Models
The current fourth-generation Ram 3500 debuted for 2010. Compared to the previous Ram 3500, the current generation has revised styling, a more upscale interior, a retuned suspension and the new Crew Cab, which replaced the previous generation's Quad Cab body style.

The third-generation Dodge
Ram 3500 was produced from 2003-'09. Only the regular and Quad Cab (crew cab) body styles were available initially; the Mega Cab (really big crew cab) squeezed into the lineup in 2006. The Mega Cab was only available with the short bed, while the regular cab was only equipped with the long bed. The Quad Cab was offered with either and -- unlike the previous generation -- featured forward-hinged rear doors.

The short-bed Quad Cab was the only 3500 model available with a single rear axle; the rest had dual-wheel rear axles. The second-generation
Dodge Ram 3500 was produced from 1994-2002. The base engine was a 5.2-liter V8 engine, with an 8.0-liter V10 or 5.9-liter Cummins turbodiesel optional.

2010 Chevrolet Avalanche,Reviews

The 2010 Chevrolet Avalanche gets a couple of changes. The 2010 Chevrolet Avalanche reflects GM's effort to combine a pickup with an SUV. The Avalanche takes after its pickup parent with its four-door crew-cab configuration. Certainly, the full-sized Avalanche is no slouch in the size department.

The
2010 Chevrolet Avalanche is a full-size crew-cab pickup with a removable rear window and exclusive midgate. The basic LS features a composite cargo bed, a removable three-piece cargo cover, full power accessories, air-conditioning, a front 40/20/40-split bench seat with center storage, a power driver seat, basic OnStar capability and a single-CD stereo with an auxiliary jack, USB port and satellite radio.

The top-drawer LTZ offers standard 20-inch wheels, a navigation system, an adaptive suspension, heated and ventilated leather seats, a rearview camera, integrated turn-signal mirrors and an automatic-dimming rearview mirror.

The
2010 Chevrolet Avalanche is available with either two-wheel drive (2WD) or four-wheel drive (4WD). A properly equipped 2WD Avalanche can tow up to 8,100 pounds. Standard Avalanche safety equipment includes antilock disc brakes, stability control, GM's OnStar emergency communications system and a full-length side curtain airbag system with a rollover sensor. With bucket seats, the Avalanche seats five, but it can carry up to six passengers when equipped with the split-bench front seat.

With the midgate up, the Avalanche's cargo bed is 5-feet-3-inches long; drop the midgate and slide the rear seats forward and the bed grows to over 8 feet.

2011 Chevrolet Volt,Reviews

The 2011 Chevrolet Volt is Chevy's much-anticipated new plug-in battery/gasoline hybrid, featuring an electric-only mode with a range of up to 40 miles.

So what exactly is the
2011 Chevrolet Volt? We say "quite possibly" because you can't measure the Volt's fuel economy in any standard fashion. Even with a $7,500 federal tax credit, a base Volt will still cost $33,500 -- and that's without the home charging station that's essentially mandatory for a plug-in hybrid like the Volt. The 2011 Chevrolet Volt is a midsize five-door hatchback sedan with seating for four.

The Premium Trim package adds leather upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and heated front seats. The front-wheel-drive 2011 Volt is primarily powered by an electric motor rated at 149 hp (111 kilowatts) and 273 pound-feet of torque. This motor draws power from a lithium-ion battery pack until the battery charge is 70 percent depleted.

At that point, the Volt's 1.4-liter four-cylinder internal combustion engine, which requires premium fuel, comes to life as a replacement power source for the electric motor. In Edmunds range and fuel economy testing, we found the Volt had an electricity range of between 30 and 39 miles in mixed driving. When the battery is depleted, it returned 31.4 mpg. In Edmunds performance testing, the Volt went from zero to 60 mph in 9.2 seconds in electric mode and 9 seconds flat with the engine generator. Safety features on the
2011 Chevy Volt include antilock brakes, stability control, front side airbags, front knee airbags and full-length side curtain airbags. In Edmunds brake testing, the Volt came to a stop in a respectable 124 feet.

The Volt's hatchback design is convenient for loading cargo, but the swooping rear roof line and battery pack location limit maximum luggage capacity to just 10.6 cubic feet with the back seats up.

Driving Impressions
In all-electric mode, the
2011 Chevrolet Volt is as quiet and smooth as any EV we've driven -- and it's still a competent vehicle when the engine-generator kicks in.

2011 Chevrolet Tahoe,Reviews

1The 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe gains an integrated trailer-brake controller with the optional Trailering package.

The Expedition offers a third-row seat that conveniently folds away to expand cargo capacity, yet the Ford isn't as powerful as the Tahoe. The 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe is available in three trim levels: LS, LT and LTZ. The Tahoe Hybrid is reviewed separately.
The base Tahoe LS comes standard with 17-inch alloy wheels, tri-zone manual climate control, eight-passenger seating with front power-adjustable bucket seats and center floor console, a 60/40-split second-row seat and 50/50-split removable third-row seat. A front split bench seat may be substituted to enable nine-passenger seating. 4WD models include a single-speed transfer case.

Among options not available on the LS are second-row captain's chairs (for seven-passenger seating) and a Luxury package with heated front and second-row seats (with power release), power-folding mirrors and a power rear liftgate. A second-row split bench seat can be substituted for eight-passenger seating. A six-speed automatic transmission transmits power through the rear wheels on 2WD models or all four wheels on 4WD models. The Tahoe's acceleration is strong for a full-size SUV, as the 4WD Tahoe hit 60 mph in about 8.5 seconds in Edmunds testing. A properly equipped Tahoe can tow up to 8,500 pounds.

The 2011 Chevy Tahoe comes standard with antilock brakes, stability control, front-seat side airbags, side curtain airbags and OnStar emergency telematics. Rear parking sensors and a rearview camera are available on every Tahoe, while the Tahoe LTZ can be had with a blind-spot warning system.

2011 Chevrolet Traverse,Reviews

Aside from the audio system's relocated USB input and the addition of heated cloth seats to the options list for LT models, the 2011 Chevrolet Traverse remains largely unchanged.

Body Styles, Trim Levels, and Options
The
2011 Chevrolet Traverse is a large crossover SUV available in LS, LT and LTZ trim levels. Select the 2LT package and you'll get all that plus tri-zone automatic climate control, a 10-speaker Bose system (with USB port), rear audio system controls, seven-passenger seating (featuring second-row captain's chairs), a power liftgate and a rearview camera integrated into the rearview mirror.

The Traverse LTZ ups the luxury ante with 20-inch wheels, leather upholstery, heated and ventilated power front seats (with driver memory settings), Bluetooth connectivity and remote ignition. In our performance testing, a Traverse LT2 posted a sufficiently quick 0-60-mph time of 8.6 seconds.

EPA fuel economy estimates for the front-wheel-drive Traverse are 17 mpg city/24 mpg highway and 19 mpg combined. All-wheel-drive Traverse models are very close at 16/23/19 mpg. Properly equipped, the Traverse can tow up to 5,200 pounds.

Safety
Antilock disc brakes, traction and stability control, front seat side-impact airbags and side curtain airbags for all three rows are all standard on the
2011 Chevrolet Traverse, as is one year of GM's OnStar service, including turn-by-turn navigation and hands-free phone connectivity. Depending on which trim level you choose, the interior offers seating for either seven passengers with the second-row captain's chairs or eight with the 60/40-split-folding second-row bench seat. There's also plenty of room for stuff, including 24.4 cubic feet of cargo room behind the third-row seat.
