2011 Volkswagen Cross Coupe

2011 Volkswagen Cross Coupe
The Volkswagen Cross Coupe Concept is an all-wheel-drive, plug-in hybrid and looks as if a traditional four-door coupe and an SUV got melded together in the design center.

The Volkswagen Cross Coupe concept is not a coupe. Coupes traditionally have two doors; the Cross Coupe has four. Underneath the skin lies one of the more complicated power sources VW has shown — a 148-hp diesel engine and 54-hp electric motor powering the front wheels, and a 114-hp electric motor on the rear axle for all-wheel-drive.

The Cross Coupé concept takes the wacky proportions from cars like the BMW X6 and Acura ZDX, grafts on VW’s newest design language, and applies it to a compact, Tiguan-sized package.

Thankfully, the gas engine gets a boost from not one, but two electric motors, one powering the front axle and another powering the rear axle. The claimed combined output of the gas engine and electric motors is 262 net horsepower.

Being a plug-in hybrid, the Cross Coupé is capable of a 25 mile all-electric range, with a claimed total hypothetical range of 531 miles. In all-electric mode, top speed is limited to 75 mph.

Lastly,
Volkswagen Cross Coupe is showing off another innovation in the concept thanks to its all-wheel-drive system with electric drive shaft. The rear axle is driven by the rear electric motor while power is supplied to the rear electric motor by the one at the front.

2011 Volkswagen Beetle R Concept

2011 Volkswagen Beetle R Concept
Volkswagen may say the 2011 Volkswagen Beetle is more masculine until its blue in the face, but the Beetle will always have that stigma of being driven by those who truly used the standard flower vase found in the last-generation New Beetle.

While VW is mum on power output, the all-wheel drive Golf R makes due with 256-hp so if the front-drive Beetle R were to reach production, it would have to slot in below VW’s new halo car.

Design flourishes on the 'R'. concept include wider bumpers and wheel arches, racing seats, four exhaust pipes and engine-cooling air intakesIt's. a fair assumption that given the Beetle shares a platform with a Golf, the Beetle R will be powered by the Golf R's. turbocharged 2.0-liter. 4-cylinder engine, which produces in the region of 270hp.

If you appreciate the styling of the 2011 Volkswagen Beetle, you’ll probably like the looks of the Beetle R even more.

If Britain’s Autocar is correct, the Beetle R will see production if there’s a positive reception for it in Los Angeles.

Since the VW Beetle shares a platform with the VW Golf, building a
Volkswagen Beetle R won’t require a significant amount of engineering.

2011 Nissan Pivo 3 Concept

Remember Nissan’s quirky Pivo 2 concept from 2007? Or how about the original Pivo from 2005? The Pivo 3 is actually Nissan’s eight electric car concept, and highlights yet again the Japanese automaker’s dedication to zero emission driving.

This small size, plus a pair of in-wheel motors enable an extremely small turning radius with zero turn gap and allows the Pivo 3 to park in very tight confines.

Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., presents the Nissan PIVO 3 Concept car at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show.

Automated Valet Parking (AVP) enables Nissan PIVO 3 to automatically drive, locate a parking space and park without driver assistance in the infrastructure equipped parking lots envisioned for the future.

2011 Chevrolet Cruze Diesel

There's a diesel-powered Chevrolet Cruze headed to the U.S. soon. In almost every other market where the Cruze has been sold since its 2008 debut, it's been available with optional diesel power.

It's installed in the refreshed "Series II" Holden Cruze CDX that was just released in Australia. It features GM's next-generation 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine, and when the diesel Cruze arrives in the U.S. in 2013, there's a good chance that this will be the engine under the hood.

Diesel for Down Under
In its initial Series I guise, the Australian Cruze was offered in two specification levels: CD and the better-dressed CDX. The 1.4-liter engine offers up reasonable performance, but on paper it's the turbodiesel CDX model that boasts better numbers.

Out With the Italian
The 2011 Chevrolet Cruze CDX's brand-new turbodiesel engine is sourced from GM's specialist diesel engine manufacturing plant in Gunsan, South Korea. Compared to the VM Motori-built engine, the GM diesel is quieter, with lower emissions and better fuel economy.

The 2011 Chevrolet Cruze CDX is much more impressive during midgear acceleration.

That said, we burned a fair bit of diesel pushing the Cruze through the canyons, so breaking 30 mpg combined with a lighter foot wouldn't be very tough.

It's hard to tell at this point where the Cruze diesel will shake out in terms of EPA mileage numbers.

The standard Cruze happens to be 125 pounds heavier than the Cruze Eco that weighs 3009 pounds. Valvetrain: Dual-overhead cam and has 4 valves/cylinder
Engine type: Transverse, front engine, front-wheel drive
Torque: 265
Fuel type: Diesel of the low sulfur category
Transmission type: 6-speed manual
Horsepower: 161
Compression ratio: 16:5
Final-drive ratio: 2.64
The standard fittings were quite lethargic in both of the models having 139-hp Ecotec 1.8-liter naturally aspirated engine of four-cylinder.

What’s good?
The 2011 Chevrolet Cruze CDX’s spanking new turbo diesel engine is from the manufacturing plant of General Motors Corporation’s plant situated in Gunsan, Korea (south). Chevy Cruze has the capability of controlling speed mechanically with the additional benefit of having steering mounted controls. The feature of anti-theft prevents the Cruze to start devoid of the correct key. The car that most will buy, the automatically-equipped Cruze ECO actually suffers a stiff 5-mpg consequence over the transmission car which is manual.

Accessories
Tail lamp chrome garnish: The Chevy tail lamp looks classy with the elegant chrome contour.
Illuminated door sill plates: After stepping inside your
Chevrolet Cruze you can experience the wonderful illumination in the door Sill Plates.

2011 Mazda 5

the fall of 2010 the all-new Mazda 5 hits showrooms across Europe as successor to Mazda's first-generation compact multi-activity vehicle (C-MAV).

The all-new Mazda 5 has a completely new exterior that employs Nagare-flow design, which has won design awards on Mazda concept cars. On the inside, Mazda 5 has a new dashboard, steering wheel and centre stack, along with new seats, materials, colours and seat fabrics for enhanced quality feel.

The "hidden" D-pillar - formed by covering it with glass - and horizontal rear lamps enhance the integrated flow effect front-to-back, and make the all-new Mazda 5 exterior both unique to the C-MAV segment and unmistakably a Mazda.

Two sliding rear doors, a 130 mm-wide step just 439 mm from the ground, and one of the segment's largest rear door openings (686 mm wide, 1,083 mm high) give easy access to the Mazda 5 interior, even if you're holding a child in your arms.

The front section of the driver and passenger seat's centre armrest is widened (15 mm) for better arm support.

There are wider front seatbacks for both driver and front passenger, and the front section of the driver and passenger seat centre arm rest is 15 mm wider.

The air vents for the all-new Mazda 5 are now higher than on the previous generation, which improves comfort in the cabin on cold or hot days and the rear passengers benefit from air vents placed under the front seats.

The three-point seatbelt of the 2nd row centre seat allows the mounting of three child safety seats if necessary. The 2nd row features Mazda unique Karakuri functionality. Tipping the left seat cushion forward allows you to store the middle seat cushion into the space below it.

The standard equipment package features power-adjustable side mirrors, manual air conditioning, driver seat height adjustment, power windows front and back with one-touch driver window operation, power door locks, safety touch sensor for electric sliding doors, six airbags, four-channel ABS, electric brake-force distribution (EBD), brake assist, Emergency Stop Signal (ESS), traction control (TCS) and DSC. A new engine joins the updated MZR 1.8 petrol in the powertrain line-up of the all-new Mazda 5.

Mazda's new MZR 2.0 DISI petrol engine with i-stop technology replaces the current 2.0-litre petrol, and delivers double-digit reductions in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

The engine also features Mazda's stop/start system, i-stop, which saves fuel by shutting the engine off when the car is stopped at a traffic light or in a traffic jam, and then automatically restarting it when the driver presses the clutch pedal to resume driving. Mazda i-stop is unique because it employs a "combustion + starter motor-assist" system that uses engine combustion to restart the engine, rather than just an electric starter motor like conventional stop/start systems.
The i-stop system of the new Mazda 5 2.0-litre direct-injection petrol is activated automatically when the car is started.

Mazda i-stop is not a variation on other systems currently on the market. The Mazda system, on the other hand, initiates engine restart immediately with a measured restart time of just 0.35 seconds, twice as fast as conventional systems.

This is also the reason why the new Mazda 5 2.0-litre DISI petrol engine is so smooth and quiet upon restart. An updated version of the popular MZR 1.8 petrol engine remains in the engine line-up of the new Mazda 5.

A new front lip spoiler, a flat engine undercover and front tyre deflectors work together to channel air under the vehicle efficiently, which helps keep fuel consumption down. The all-new Mazda 5 features an evolution of the outstanding safety package that made the current Mazda 5 one of Europe´s safest mini-vans.

On the inside, passengers are protected by a passive safety package with six airbags (front, side and curtain), three-point seat belts with pretensioners and load-limiters at the front seats, a crushable brake pedal and horizontal movement type shock absorbing steering column, a seat design and head restraints that help reduce whiplash during in the event of a rear impact, ISOFIX child safety seat anchors and tethers in 2nd row, and soft, impact-absorbing interior surfaces.

Mazda's new people-carrier is also safer and easier to use in city driving with the introduction of a park-assist system. The new Mazda 5 is equipped with large 300 mm ventilated disc brakes in the front (278 mm for 15-inch wheels) and 302 mm rear brakes (280 mm for 15-inch wheels), four-channel ABS, electric brake-force distribution (EBD), brake assist, Emergency Stop Signal (ESS), traction control (TCS), DSC and six airbags.

2011 Mazda MX-5 Spyder Concept

Designed by both Mazda and Magna Car Top Systems, the removable top gives the MX-5 Spyder an even lower profile and even cleaner lines. Unlike the production MX-5’s folding soft top, removal of the bikini top takes more that flipping a lever and tossing back the top, but we’ll bet the added effort is rewarded with a fairly substantial weight savings.

Under the Spyder’s aluminum hood is a conventional 2.0-liter Mazda MZR engine, fueled by isobutanol. The exterior is finished in a tasteful Stratosphere White with dark red trim to match the bikini top, and black mirrors are used with black wheels and black side skirts to add contrast.

The car's low-slung looks are further accentuated by a simple, single-panel grenadine-red soft-top that was designed by Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) and Magna Car Top Systems, and made by Haartz Corporation. Other mechanical changes on the MX-5 Spyder include a Racing Beat header, intake and exhaust muffler, a MAZDASPEED coil over kit, Brembo brakes and a lightweight lithium-ion racing battery made by Braille Battery.

Ford of Europe is launching the most stylish and technologically advanced Ford Mondeo model ever. Following significant updates to the Ford S-MAX and Galaxy, the new Ford Mondeo is the latest Ford car to benefit from the continuing evolution of Ford kinetic design, with subtle visual differences incorporated into key areas such as the front and rear end.

The Ford Mondeo interior has also benefitted from a comprehensive rework with changes to the centre console and door panels, plus a range of new, high quality materials.
New Mondeo will see the first application of a higher performance 240 PS derivative of the efficient new 2.0-litre Ford EcoBoost turbocharged petrol engine, joining the existing 203 PS version of this engine, introduced in Ford Mondeo, new S-MAX and new Galaxy early in 2010.

The latest Ford Mondeo also introduces a comprehensively revised version of the 2.2-litre Ford Duratorq TDCi diesel engine, which boasts a 12 per cent power increase to 200 PS, making it the most powerful Ford Duratorq diesel engine so far.

Ford ECOnetic Technologies are also applied to the new Mondeo range to enhance efficiency and economy, and include new features like Smart Regenerative Charging, the Ford Eco Mode driver information system and - a Ford first - an Active Grille Shutter system.

Driver assistance, comfort and convenience features abound in the new Ford Mondeo and many of these are appearing for the first time in a Ford model, including systems for Lane Departure Warning, Driver Alert and Auto High Beam.

The new Ford Mondeo offers a wide range of Ford's latest high-efficiency powertrain technologies, delivering a key combination of fuel efficiency and low emissions, yet still maintaining Ford's renowned driving enjoyment. The range includes Ford EcoBoost petrol, Duratorq diesel and E85 Bio ethanol Flexifuel options.

The new Mondeo range is packed with available technologies to provide customers with even higher levels of comfort and confidence.

Also extending to Ford Mondeo are many features already introduced on the latest S-MAX and Galaxy models, including Ford's Blind Spot Information System, Speed Limiter, Rear Door Power Child Locks and Rear View Camera. "Like all driver assistance technologies offered by Ford, these have not been developed to take away overall responsibility from the driver.

The new Ford Mondeo Titanium and Titanium S models are fitted with distinctive LED daytime running lights as standard.
A total of 10 high performance speakers are integrated into the Ford Mondeo interior and, as a result of careful component matching and basic setup, the performance of the Ford Premium Sound System is ideal for the discerning audiophile - even at low volumes.

Rear seat passengers of the new Ford Mondeo are not forgotten either, with an optional Multi-media DVD system available for them.

Mondeo's new 240 PS version of the 2.0-litre Ford EcoBoost engine shares the same basic technologies and design of the popular 203 PS version, which was launched in the S-MAX, Galaxy and Mondeo earlier in 2010 and which will continue to be available in the new Ford Mondeo range. Both of the 2.0-litre Ford EcoBoost engines are available exclusively with the smooth and effortless six-speed Ford PowerShift double wet-clutch automatic transmission, providing drivers with a powertrain which combines outstanding performance and efficiency with supreme refinement.

Despite the responsive performance figures, both versions of the new 2.0-litre Ford EcoBoost engine allow the new Mondeo to deliver impressive fuel economy and low CO2 emissions.

In addition to the new 2.0-litre EcoBoost petrol and 2.0- and 2.2-litre Duratorq TDCi diesel engines, the new Ford Mondeo range offers other petrol options for value-seeking customers in the large car market.

More exciting powertrains - including additional 1.6-litre displacement engines from the Ford EcoBoost and Duratorq TDCi families - will also be made available for the new Ford Mondeo shortly.

The new Ford Mondeo range includes two innovative Ford ECOnetic Technologies that have already been launched in the latest Focus ECOnetic. Smart Regenerative Charging and Ford Eco Mode will be included as standard equipment across the new Ford Mondeo range.

Ford's extensive experience with aerodynamic details has also resulted in another Ford ECOnetic Technologies feature making its debut in the European Ford range on the new Mondeo - Active Grille Shutter technology.

Drivers of the new Ford Mondeo will not only be able to benefit from new technology hardware in achieving lower fuel consumption, but also from the introduction of the Ford Eco Mode smart, driver-focused software, which is standard equipment on all models.

Ford PowerShift is standard equipment on new Ford Mondeo with either the 203 or 240 PS 2.0-litre EcoBoost engine - creating an advanced combination that delivers new levels of fuel efficiency and low CO2, yet still demonstrates that driving pleasure does not need to result in high CO2 emission levels.

Ford PowerShift is also optional with 140 and 163 PS versions of the 2.0-litre Duratorq TDCi common rail turbo-diesel engine.

Homologated fuel economy data for the 203 and 240 PS 2.0-litre Ford EcoBoost engines paired with Ford PowerShift, clearly demonstrates how efficient a modern powertrain combination with automatic transmission can be.

2011 Range Rover Sport

Not much changes for the 2011 Land Rover Range Rover Sport. It's tempting to dismiss the 2011 Land Rover Range Rover Sport as Land Rover Lite, a luxury SUV posturing as the progeny of a line of vehicles with an impeccable off-road heritage. In reality, the Range Rover Sport shares more in common with the former Land Rover LR3 than the top-of-the-line Range Rover.

The Amari design AD1 three-piece deep concave forged wheelset is one of three wheel designs in the Amari design range, made from forged aluminium.

The Amari Design Windsor edition is available now from Amari supercars headquarters and there apointed international dealers worldwide.

Supercharged models equipped with an adaptive cruise control system also benefit from a collision mitigation system. Although the Range Rover Sport doesn't radiate the same Old World luxury charm as the more traveled top-line Range Rover, it still feels rich and contemporary.

Even though the
2011 Land Rover Range Rover Sport is billed as a more nimble sibling to the top-of-the-line Range Rover, it still weighs about 5,500 pounds, about 1,000 pounds more than an Infiniti FX50.

2011 Toyota Highlander

Toyota has significantly revised its popular Toyota Highlander and Highlander Hybrid crossover sport utility vehicles for 2011, giving them enhanced styling, additional standard amenities and new user technology.

Toyota’s solution to the common conundrum is the 28 mpg Highlander Hybrid, a full-size crossover with seating for seven, 4-wheel drive, and the ability to tow 3,500 pounds.

The gasoline/electric Highlander is powered by a version of Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive, best known for its use in the groundbreaking Prius. A continuously variable transmission transmits power from the hybrid powerplant to the front wheels.

EPA mileage estimates for both city and highway driving are 28 mpg. City matches highway mileage because of the capture of regenerative braking energy during urban driving. The Highlander Hybrid is available in two trim levels — base and Limited. An electric power steering system is employed for efficiency, but it tends to numb some of the feedback provided by traditional systems.

The 2011 Highlander is available in Base, SE and Limited grades in both two-wheel (2WD) and full-time four-wheel-drive (4WD). All Toyota Highlander Hybrid models are equipped with four-wheel-drive with intelligence and available in Base and Limited grades.

The Limited Grade offers stylish 19-inch wheels and also features silver roof rails. The SE grade gains a power liftgate.
Daytime running lamps are now standard on all Toyota Highlander models.

A standard 50/50 split third-row seat and manual rear climate control have been made standard for all 2011 models.

The Toyota Highlander Hybrid base grade offers a new Leather Package that includes leather-trimmed front seats with front seat heaters, leather-trimmed steering wheel and shift knob, power moonroof, HomeLink®, auto-dimming rearview mirror with compass, plus an engine immobilizer with security alarm. The Toyota Highlander Hybrid Base grade gains standard easy-clean fabric seating, along with an eight-way power driver's seat, the Tech Audio, the third-row seat and manual rear climate control.

The Toyota Highlander Hybrid model's Hybrid Synergy Drive features a new, more powerful 3.5-liter V6 for 2011, replacing the previous 3.3-liter V6.

The system electronically varies front and rear torque distribution depending on traction conditions.
Base and SE Highlander models are equipped with standard 17-inch alloy wheels with 245/65 R17 tires; the Limited features standard 19-inch alloy wheels with 245/55 R19 tires.

All Toyota Highlander models are equipped with four-wheel disc brakes. On conventional Highlander 4WD models, full-time four-wheel drive is available on all V6 grades.
Toyota Highlander comes standard with Toyota's Star Safety System™.

This system integrates operation of enhanced Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control (TRAC), Electric Power Steering (EPS) and the anti-lock brake system (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA).

Gasoline
Toyota Highlander models are also equipped with a straight-line steering feature. The Toyota Highlander Hybrid employs the advanced Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) system. All Toyota Highlander models incorporate a corner-braking feature. Toyota Highlander comes standard with seven airbags. Additionally, all Highlander models are standard equipped with front active headrests.

The Highlander SE and Limited grades feature a standard backup camera with a 3.5-inch multi-information display; this feature is available for Base grade models for 2011 as part of the optional Tech Package.

2011 Honda Jazz

To keep things fresh for Jazz fans, Honda has refreshed its sub-compact hatch with styling tweaks, new colours and extra equipment. The Jazz was affordable, practical and cute – healthy sales followed.

Will the 2011 facelift be able to maintain the Jazz’s place within the affections of NZ mums? Car and SUV belted into a 2011 Jazz 1.3S Sport to find out the answers.

The Jazz interior has also received updates with a new darker and more premium dashboard material. The unique controls layout remains the same for the new Jazz, while it looks unconventional it’s easy to learn and operate.

A leather-wrapped steering wheel houses audio controls and now trip computer and cruise controls on the Jazz 1.3S. One of the Jazz’s core strengths remains its space and practicality.

This rear seat reclines backwards, splits 60/40 for loading longer items and the base can be pushed up for loading tall items behind the front seats.

Available with a choice of 1.3-litre or 1.5-litre petrol engines our tested model sported the smaller 1.3-litre option. Dynamically the Jazz is competent, it’s agile when cornering and has enough grip through its front wheels to stay well settled.

General refinement is impressive in the Jazz with little wind or road noise entering the cabin. For safety the Jazz is much better aligned with its competitors now with stability control included. The Jazz also boasts a 5-Star NCAP crash test rating.

All up, it’s a commendable facelift for the Jazz despite a lack of any major mechanical updates. The styling tweaks are effective in modernising the Jazz shape and making it appear sleeker and sportier.

For the first time in the European Honda Jazz, leather seats are available as a factory fitted option.

The front seats don't need to be slid forward to give the rear seat sufficient clearance as it is folded down. In 'Utility Mode', Honda Jazz offers a perfectly flat load floor, a maximum 1720 mm in length, sufficient to swallow three 26 inch mountain bikes with front wheels still attached, stood upright. With seats folded the Honda Jazz boot capacity increases to 1320 litres of space when measured to the roof and excluding the underfloor storage.

To return the rear seats to a seating position, you simply lift the assembly back up; the seat bottom remains locked to the seat back and is simply released by pulling up the leg frame and the seat bottom folded down.

The practical Double-Trunk boot system is fitted to 1.4-litre Honda Jazz models with tyre repair kit, giving owners greater convenience and perfectly complementing the Magic Seats arrangement.

The suspension on the Honda Jazz has revised settings to increase ride comfort and improve handling.

To compliment the launch of the Jazz Hybrid model, the conventionally powered
Honda Jazz has also had some small reductions in CO2 values and improved fuel economy.
