Unfortunately, for Peugeot, a German site had broken the embargo on the Peugeot 208, so we have the first official pictures of Peugeot’s replacement for the 207 a day ahead of the event.
On offer is a lighter, shorter car – but with more interior space – with a range of very economical 3-pot engines in 1.0 litre and 1.2 litre varieties.
While it looks pretty darn good, we’re not sure it’s a classic design like the 206. It’s too chintzy somehow!
There are lots of details in the car’s design, some good, some not very good. Peugeot is introducing a Citroen level of attention to details with the new car.
The proportions of the B-segment fighter are stunning, especially in its two-door configuration where it looks a lot like Citroen’s DS3.
It wheelbase is identical to the 207, yet Peugeot has reportedly made the interior dimensions a bit bigger.
There’s also going to be an RC (GTi in the UK) with a 1.6-liter 154 hp in the base form and over 200 hp in the RC Racing form.
Cars line 208 built on the same front-drive platform, which is used for hatchbacks Citroen C3 and DS3, but Peugeot will use different suspension settings and steering. Peugeot 208 hatchback will be offered with five diesel and two petrol engines.
