Geneva marked the debut of the hottest car in Ford's Fiesta range, the sporty ST model.
Based on the three-door Fiesta on sale in Europe, the Fiesta gains a 177-horsepower EcoBoost four-cylinder, and aggressive styling influenced by the upcoming Focus ST.
The cabin hasn’t been left aside either by the American engineers and designers and the 2013 Fiesta ST is packing Recaro sport seats, carbon fiber trim, alloy pedals, sport steering wheel, SYNC infotainment system and a “sound symposer” which is able to filter the most attractive engine noises from under the hood.
Featuring specific chassis tuning and a lowered, tighter suspension, plus Ford’s Torque Vectoring Control System and no fewer than three different stability control modes, the new Fiesta ST was flogged mercilessly around the infamous Nürburgring Nordschleife, during its development testing phase, with the idea of achieving a healthy blend of sharp handling and good directional stability.
Ford Motor Company is unveiling the new production-ready Ford Fiesta ST at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show in advance of the performance hatchback's launch in Europe in 2013.
The all-new model will take Ford Fiesta ST performance to a new level. This dynamic new hot-hatch is undoubtedly our best Fiesta ST to date," said Jost Capito, Ford's director of Global Performance Vehicles.
The new Ford Fiesta ST was engineered using Ford's global Performance Car DNA and developed by Ford Team RS, the European arm of the company's Global Performance Vehicles group.
The experience of the engineering team in working with Ford's motorsport partners to develop the Fiesta RS WRC, Fiesta Rallycross and Racing Fiesta vehicles, also proved invaluable for developing the new Fiesta ST.
